So far I've only done my DVD theme. It seems scary.......and I'm not excited to use it...

Digital Portfolio:

This part was easy as the compressor finished I used the magnifying glass symbol to go straight to my file. Using the compressor can get really confusing and I wish I had used it more and gotten use to it better.

Once it stopped completely and had to restart.

If you don't label clearly you could end up compressing the same thing twice (which I did because I had things labeled simply 'final' 'last cut')

Web Portfolio:

So far using Vimeo and Youtube is easy. I want to use Behance, but it scares me and I honestly don't feel like my work is good enough yet for it.

*Note I was absent last week because of family reasons and my ride had to return without me.

Fellowship/Internship Assignment

FELLOWSHIP: For the fellowship assignment I needed to brainstorm what I want to do as an artist, film and fine arts. I am interested in experimentation and pushing the bars on what skills go into film beside directing and working a camera. I want to find ways to truly integrate the hand skills from fine arts and put them to work in film.

A common example is the artistry that when into making Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. The art, set, costume, and make-up directors used a variety of processes to get the authentic and eye catching finish product, like when creating certain weapons and armor they used an old metals casting process done by highly trained blacksmiths.

My artistic goal if I got this fellowship would be to learn various techniques in fine art/craft and gain a proficient historical understanding of my environment.

This will then translate into my professional goal, which is to be able to create quality, realistic, visuals in films I produce. This understanding can then be manipulated to problem solve in the future.

In Europe, I would like to specifically focus on Viking history. I would like to stay in Norway and get an understanding of their history, government, social ideals and community, art, clothing, etc. I would get footage, photographs, and a wide selection of Viking history.

INTERNSHIPS:

Werehaus Productions- This company interests me because of their commitment to underground culture, including sports like surfing, skateboarding, and BMX, graffiti, music, and fashion. They use documentarian styled commercials and create a very personal feel in their beautifully high quality videos. The style is how I would like my work to look and feel, while the subject matter are aspects I would deal with if I had a production company.
40 Acres and a Mule- Spike Lee is a groundbreaking African American artist. He deals with every aspect of his production company as well as has been in front and behind the camera. He has always gotten great feedback from actors he has worked with, which is important to me because I want to learn how to have strong relationships with my actors to help create strong films. He also has created documentaries with hard hitting facts and inspiring images.
Biz Bash Magazine- This magazine gives in-depth reviews on high and large scale events. From HBO premieres to the Superbowl, Biz Bash recognizes everything from who produced these events to where the decor is from. They deal with who does business, marketing, and PR for large companies.

Narrative One

Theme: {Prince saves a damsel in distress} Trying to "save" someone you love when they may not need your help and need to become their own hero.

A damsel learns to become her own hero.

Act One: Opens with main character just getting out of a quarrel with a guy she has just accused of chauvinistic actions. She gets stopped by her best friend who pulls her away and tells her she's over reacting. He guy goes back to his girlfriend frustrated and walks off. They're friendship is established and the history of both girls. Main character who comes from a single parent home with her mom who goes through one abusive boyfriend to another.
And character two who's father is in and out of jail and lives with her grandmother.

Act Two: The boyfriend of character two is introduced. He thinks that being a man gives him power of her. She doesn't have confidence around him. And with every verbal attack you can see her get her feeling hurt over and over again.
When they group goes out Character One tries to intervene without being overbearing, but with out character two to back her up, she gets ignored by the boyfriend. But his final comment causes a heated argument between character one and the boyfriend.
When character two pulls Ch. one aside to tell her to say out of her relationship Ch. One explains that she doesnt want to see her hurt anymore and cant understand why she would rather be with him.

Act Three: Character two goes home with her boyfriend. She's contemplating her relationship and words from Ch. One. She listens to her boyfriends same rude and hurtful comments. With her head down, she makes a rude comment back. He pauses, thinks of something worst to say, she combats him again. He raises his voice and tries to put her in her place. She looks him in the eyes, grabs her bag, and walks out. He stands at the door yelling, calling her names, etc. When she gets in her car he comes to the window. The boyfriend tries to apologies. She looks at him again and simply replies, "No more."

Skill that needs to be worked on. After viewing the footage below I realized I want to develop in multiple areas, including story an character development, relationship with actors, and lighting. The area I feel extremely weak in is organization on set, with shots and master shots, unexpected problems, what's in the frame, and be more in control.

Self Critique

During project two I wanted to deal with emotion through horror. Our class picked a strategy from a list and executed it as we felt best. My process is 'waiting'.

I am hoping that my audience actually feels fear, worry, anger, and anxiety.

I want to become great at getting viewers to feel emotions through all the forms of art that i work with. I feel that taping into my audiences consciences will always be the key to hooking them in.

I wanted to focus more on the process of whats behind a door. I wanted someone walking up steps and trying to force the door to the room open, but during filming i spent a lot of time working on my helps acting. The piece ended up being more about her. And after I finished editing it was apparent that waiting was more of the theme.

Main tension/conflict: be specific, look for this element in all genres of film. Strengths of the film.

I think the films strong points are lighting and editing.

I want to learn how to be more organized on the set, help my actors, and manage a team.

Also I want to be able to be more creative when problem solving.

Ok so this project needed a bit more planning than I thought. At first since the project was so open I was confused. But in the end I found a way to make my initial idea work with a given strategy.

Activity as a Gradual Process:

My process is opening a door. But I want to build suspense, fear, and panic in the viewer. To do this I want to use a very dark room with one door.

Shots: Use many "close up" shots and one "over the shoulder" shot after an "establishing" shot.

Equipment: Lights, Light stand, Tripod, Small Reflector

The storyboard above shows my actor in panic and fear in a dark room. between each transition there will be sounds of walking that lead to the opening of the door where she is hiding. the sounds are representing the actual process of the door getting opened.

I will be using an actress, and costuming. The setting will be in the MCA garden area. Shots will include ELS, EST, WS, MS, CU, ECU, INSERTS, REVEAL, High Angle and Horizontals.

How/when did you become interested in fashion?

I have always considered my self to be quite fashionable, i had a phase, as everyone does, where they follow trendy fashions, in middle school, but I have always looked on blogs, and always had a handy fashion magazine to catch my eye since I was little

SK3X:What magazine are you draw to?

Tyler

at first I loved GQ, but i feel that it teaches men how to dress nicely, but not how to push fashion, and to dress differently, and to try new things, so I now am quite a fan of W, even though it is a womens magazine, i like the fact that it takes what I believe to be an artistic, more creative approach to fashion, that does push the limit.

SK3X:

I know your an art student. Do you think your fashion and your art relate much or not really?

um, i dont know if fashion influences my art, but i do think that art influences my fashion, both are dark in color, and mix a sense of structure with relaxation of design, but i dont know if they are directly connected

SK3X:I can see that a lot. Do you think that fashion has "helped" you in your life?

absolutely, i think it has given me confidence that i lacked as a child, i think it gave me something other than art to live, and a way to show myself in a different way, i think that it gave me a signature, something to be known for

So who's your favorite designer, and your favorite style icon?

favorite designer, that has to be i would say prada, or gucci, it sounds cliche, but i love the way they fit their clothing, i dont think i could ever wear an entire outfit by either designer, gucci uses too much color for me, and prada is sometimes too classic, but i think that in terms of making clothes, and still adding a layer of creativity, they are amazing

and as far as a style icon goes, i dont know that i admire anyone, in terms of a celebrity, but i have always looked up to my mother in terms of style, i think we have a lot in common, the fact that both of our wardrobes are lacking color, and that we wear both fitted and seemingly oversized clothing

dont shop at any store that styles you from head to thought, without your own touch, stores like abercrombie, hollister, fashion is about thought, you have to create your own

dont claim that you dont care about fashion, everyone cares about looking their best, have pride in yourself and how you look

dont get stuck in trends

dont wear things that dont fit properly, there is nothing like a well tailored suit or even a nicely fitted shirt that looks better on a man

dont wear ugly printed shirts, and never wear sweats or basketball shorts in public

do push the envelop, even men can dress well, and differently, in fact they should

do know what colors look good on you, and what types of clothing flatter your body, even men have to think of what flatters their body types

do think about your style, putting thought into what you chose to wear everyday says a lot about your confidence,

do mix vintage and modern clothing, better yet, mix everything, make your own style, in fact style is something that cannot be bought

So after getting into an argument with a girl, whom i was business partners with, i realize that im tried of helping others reach their goals. Im good at marketing, business, sales. (not the best but def good for my age) PLUS fashion and art.

i've always limited what myself by thinking "im not ready. im too young, i havent graduated" but time waits for no one. im done. i'm NOT working for ANYONE in that kinda manner far a good while.

Buuuuttt... i have a lot of plans that im ready to start on. two different kinds of businesses.

How and/or when, did you find that music was for you? And then when did you decide you wanted this as a career?

I didnt discover it. Hell, I never had a choice! Being in a musical family with both parents being singers and musicians, you kind of just step into your role.

How long did it take you to complete this album?

It took me 3 years to finish this album. Between finishing school, being broke, and all the personal drama I wasn't able to come out when I wanted to…

How do you feel about it?

It was all for the best. Though I was frustrated and couldn't see it then, I had to admit later on in life that I just wasnt ready. Plain and simple.

What did you want to convey about you, or your views (etc) on this album?

I want people to escape when they hear my music. I want to take them out of their daily drama...take them to a higher level.

Who helped you? Any "Shout-Outs"? Lol

I would shout out the production team(s) behind my album: Blake Symphony is my "go-to" producer. Outside of him, theres the Urban Legendz a team from STL by way of NYC. Oh, and my homie Wildmann who is an AMAZING musician, singer, producer.

-"Freedom" and "Dance Wit Me" are my favorite. And "Freedom" already has a video. What was the inspiration behind that song and video?

"Freedom" was a concept put together by myself and the wonderful gentleman of Flying Fish Productions. It was centered around this desire to shed the boundaries of life. Being tired of the mundane...needing something different...something more. The video is more than playing dress up for me, its about identity, stereotypes...the Freedom to be as you are.

I must say that that song is like you read my mind, especially right now in my life. I could only imagine, artist to artist, that if you reach someone you've done your 'job' right?

Of course. Some of these songs come to me through prayer, while others...imagination, but they all touch me the same. My labor would be in vain if the masses couldn't be uplifted by these words.

Which song is your favorite? Why?

My fave is "Suicide Revenge" also know as "Pushin". It was written in a living room as I was recording. I was going through alot personally...I felt like God was trying to comfort me at that time. It was the way in which the words flowed to my mind...I knew the song was meant to be.

What are you future plans? You getting a lot of recognition already.

Release another 2 albums, hopefully I can get a Grammy! Launch my label officially, produce other artists, act in a movie or 3...my plans go on and on...

life update
i'm still broke. I may get this job at Rodgers Jewelry, but i have to get cleared through their human resources department.

I'm helping a friend throw a fashion show in September. It's also a fundraiser for single mothers.
We have been stupid busy. This business is hard -_- but it will be rewarding @ the end. i'm learning a lot.

We were on the morning news today!
Five Little Rock Fashion Week models came out to wear five different looks that will be featured in the upcoming shows.
Personally the steal from the event was this jumper by designer Nichole McGee. When I have the funds I'm hoping to get her to make me one in sequence. If anything though, I'll get the purple one ^_^

So last rehearsal the staff agreed on upping the next practice so we could work on On on Ones with the models.
I'm excited about this because I plan on walking and working on drills right along with the models. I've done a few runways before, and of course I have my own flaws, but I enjoy it a lot. Ai Yazawa's NANA is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite anime series. The whole plot can get a little carried away in romance and emotions, but in this series was at least ONE thing a person could relate to. Yazawa didn't over do it to the point where people couldn't relate.
I related a lot to this series. Different feeling and scenarios in the manga/show come close to drama in my real life. So it was really touching.

My favorite thing about Yazawa's NANA, is her keen eye for trends. In the manga, there was a lot of attention to detail, from the furniture, clothes and even characters lighters, things any teen reading/watching this would be gaga over. I haven't been inspired to dress cool, or fun. I need money. My life is real: broke, got bills, family needs money, and I'm saving to go to a better art school.

My darling friend Jasmine  got me a job with a campaigning program for the new Senator of Arkansas.  10$ p/hr...yeah great right. We get paid @ the end of the day. 

weeeelllll  not SO fast! the job is 1st come 1st. Arkansas is HOT if you don't know  and we're outside @ 10:30am, 80 degrees already...
The job is  outside ALL DAY!!! 90+ degrees by then...and we leave by 7pm...sigh.
i  make $190 in 3 days. I'm happy. However I'm forking over money already  to bills... T_T

I've decided to start interviewing highly fashionable people for the blog. I started with my two male friend Brandon and Tyler. Both go to my college. Both are artist. But both have completely different styles. I love people, so what they had to say about they style and fashion choices was very interesting to me. So first is Brandon Tolson, a graphic designer, artist, and musician in ARTISTIK APPROACH.

Fashion isn't difficult...You make the clothes.

If you're not enough w/ them, you'll never be enough w/o them. Being comfortable on your own skin make fashion easier...

After having an epiphany as an artist a while back, I went on my Facebook an deleted all the personal work I had. Compared to now and what I feel I can do as an artist that shit was NOTHING.

Anyways, I was working on a banner for the blog page and I figure I let you know who did it ^_^.
I love this a lot. The style was influenced by SVA graduate Alex Pardee. (I'm interested in going to that school now!)

I have a comment somewhere on here from a viewer about the old title on my blog VS. the things I post. He or she called me a hypocrite, cool with me, but they should have spent that time writing a letter to the White House.

I don’t have plans on taking it down the comment at all: Freedom of Speech. I can handle criticism (I go to art school).

I only understand Jane/John Doe's statement to a certain extent. "Fuck Fashion" is sarcasm and this IS a look-book. It’s a collection of things I find to be artistic, over the top, interesting, or even useless in fashion. The things I post may sometimes are "in style" or trendy, but coming from my background of personal style, most of these blogs only know what they see in magazines and runways. I've already seen most of this on the streets or on street fashion websites years ago. The fashion industry would be NOTHING without the creative street fashionistas/os.

Anyways, I'm changing my blog a little. I want to show my progression as an artist and aspiring style/art icon.

I want you to know now, I post things I can't afford on here. I have no money, family has always struggled. I learned to be stylish by HAVING to make do. Goodwill's, hand-me-downs, had to find a way to mimic the things I was inspired by when I was younger, including Japanese bands, and high fashion designers.

I'm not complaining either. I'm just showing the "other" crowd that not all these blog writers are actually all rich, daddy's girls. Some of us really are struggling but still giving it all we got.

As you all continue to follow this check out new colleges I look at, new art styles and personal styles I'm trying. My hopes is that you'll start to hear bout me in due time.

The new Ciara video...
SSsoo I like her really urban/brooklyn/B-girl (black and gold) outfit in this video. The bathing suit and coat was WAY too Beyonce and plain silly. It was simple and not overly vulgar or sex driven. I mean the song is enough.

I realized I don't talk about "urban" fashion much. I guess because I don't really dress like that often, but lots of things are really cute.
People seem to look down on "urban" fashion. Dressing urban/"hiphop" seems to ring low class. However, the black community in which this style formed from accessibility, innovation, and music has always been able to dress this style up or down.
The song is just fun to me.

Ok, I couldn't WAIT any longer to ask Miss Crazy Spork if I could make a post about her. I found her FABULOUS style on the Fruits live-journal page awhile ago. She's amazing at mixing edgy and soft, Leather jackets and Lola dresses, she's got a mess of creativity. It's quite inspiring.

These shoes are for a wedding she said on her page. I love the complexity amongst the soft flowers, bows, and lace. The layering of the ribbons and adding sheer and opaque fabrics, 0_O (I go gaga over layers of stuff like that coming from a costuming background).

I went to the opening of a new vintage collection called Strange Fruit Vintage, ran by Shalishah Petey Franklin, here in Memphis last night. It was a great event with an AMAZING Dj!!!
As you see I went scoping for great street style (which Memphis doesn't have much of so I HAD to catch the people above when and while I could lol). I couldn't stay for long but the last two pictures are outfits I liked the most(for ladies).

I was looking up Hyenas for some art that i want to do soon. Hyenas can be very symbolic and i can't wait to get a chance to do some personal work for my new portfolio. While searching i kept coming across these pictures of men who held on to their own hyena like trophies. Strong bold men, with silly acting, but dangerous wild animals? So come to find out this was a part of a project by a photographer named Pieter Hugo who's from Africa. He's Hyena Man series was shown in New York. He also has other work including portraits of albino African people.

San Francisco: Counting Down The Last Hours

So we went on another adventure. Back to Ashbury to shop...however the things I bought I cant show you because they were lost, or pick-pocketed...or something... I'm STILL fucking mad!!! They're was a corset and a sun dress in there...
Anyways so we found somewhere to party in San Francisco! Industrial party called MEAT at a joint called the DNA Lounge. (here's my outfit). It was pretty damn tight! Khalifa and I danced on the chain platform for awhile. Meet some cool people before going outside to meet more cool people. Starting with Daniel of Pan Demon.

San Francisco: Art of Ashbury

All I can say is, O_o... I've only seen art like this in ONE place back in Memphis, and it's by the same person. Up close you can see all the hard work. The colors are just amazing! I really want to incorporate something about these in my work.
I loved Ashbury the most because of the people. The underground people there, artist, hippies, poets, took care of each other, knew each other. Not sure what it would be like to live there, but I think I'd be cool with moving in that neighborhood.

San Francisco: Final Days (Legion of Honor)

Legion of Honor in San Francisco is based off of the one in Paris and dates back to the 1920's. The have art dating all the way back to the Byzantine period. I was super excited about the sculptures they had. Marble, bronze, furniture, chandlers!!! This place is BEAUTIFUL!!!

San Francisco: Day Two (FASHION)

This is our adventure that we took away from everyone today. We planned a day of shopping. Starting in the downtown fashion district and moving to Japan town and then over to Fillmore street (where we saw a car crash...). I went to Baby, The Stars Shine Bright and Black Peace Now and almost had a heart attack!!! I wanted everything! The person working was highly cute and super nice (pic 4)! and on our way back we ran into a punky quirky artist named Anja Flower(pic 2).

We walked SOOO far today, especially on Fillmore. We were excited to go to the Goodwill, which seems silly, but in Memphis, since the people dont have style there's normally nothing ever to buy. And on the way out came in a classy dressed young man (pic 1).  We even went to a great consignment shop where they donate 5 cents when you dont use plastic bags.

This one was a view of Alcatraz on top of the San Fransisco Art Institute. That school was beautiful and SO inspiring. I want to move here and transfer SO SO SO bad. I really feel as if i owe it to myself...

2wo day starts with Khalifa and I jumping out of bed to get ready. We forgot to move the clock forward. But the group took the trolley and then walked to the MoMA San Francisco. There we followed a cool looking guy for Khalifa's photography project. We went to eat and played at this monument by Keith Harring.
FI was really excited to see this statue by Jeff Koons. We learned about this in Art History. Which made seeing this cooler (because I don't like this piece).
